Yesterday
Habitat Forsyth’s story began in 1985, when a group of passionate volunteers came together to build the first house on Thurmond Street. With little experience but a shared mission, they learned on the job — holding up ceilings with their heads and improvising when windows didn’t fit. That same year, Habitat Forsyth became officially affiliated with Habitat for Humanity International and began operating under Crisis Control Ministry while awaiting tax-exempt status. After months of planning and fundraising, their dream of bringing Habitat to Forsyth County became a reality.
Today
Today, Habitat Forsyth is celebrating 40 years of building homes, community, and hope with a special anniversary Gala on October 2, 2025. Held at the Millennium Center in downtown Winston-Salem, the evening will bring together longtime supporters, community partners, and new friends to honor our journey and look ahead to an even brighter future. Guests will enjoy dinner, dancing, and inspiring stories from homeowners and volunteers whose lives have been touched by Habitat’s mission. The Gala is more than a celebration — it’s a tribute to four decades of impact and a call to continue building together.
Forever
As we honor the past and celebrate the present, we’re building a lasting legacy through the Raise the Roof: 40 Years. 1 House. Countless Futures. Community Build. This 40th Anniversary home will be built in partnership with a local family, supported by volunteers, donors, and community groups coming together to make homeownership possible. We’re raising money to help fund the build — and everyone can be part of it, whether by swinging a hammer, sponsoring a day, or making a gift. This home will stand as a symbol of what’s possible when a community commits to building a better future — today, tomorrow, and forever.
