On March 4th, 2014 Mayor Allen Joines made the following proclamation:
WHEREAS: The mission of Habitat for Humanity International is to create a world in which everyone has a safe, decent place to live, and
WHEREAS: Habitat is celebrating the 25th Anniversary of its national Collegiate Challenge program, which has inspired 229,000 energetic young people to spend their vacation breaks working with Habitat affiliates around the country since 1989, and
WHEREAS: Habitat for Humanity of Forsyth County, since 1999, has hosted more than 2,000 Collegiate Challenge students from states throughout the country, and
WHEREAS: Habitat Forsyth has been selected to host the national 25th Anniversary celebration of Collegiate Challenge, with 100 students from 9 different colleges visiting our community March 2nd through 8th , 2014, and
WHEREAS: Students from Coe College, LaSalle University, University of Florida, Southern Polytechnic State University, Villanova University, Milwaukee School of Engineering, St. John’s University, Susquehanna University, and Vanderbilt University are spending their Spring Break building four homes in the historic Boston-Thurmond neighborhood, and
WHEREAS: The students’ work will help Habitat’s ongoing Neighborhood Revitalization efforts in Boston-Thurmond, and will help four hard-working local families achieve the dream of owning their own homes, and
The City of Winston-Salem joins Habitat for Humanity of Forsyth County in celebrating the 25th Anniversary of the national Collegiate Challenge program, and these 100 young people who are helping make our community a better place to live,
NOW, THEREFORE, I, ALLEN JOINES, Mayor of the City of Winston-Salem, North Carolina, do hereby proclaim March 4th as
HABITAT FOR HUMANITY COLLEGIATE CHALLENGE DAY
