High School Students to Bake 1,000 Pies for Habitat Youth Ambassador Fundraiser

Winston-Salem, NC – The Habitat for Humanity Youth Ambassadors will host its 6th Annual PieFest fundraising event on Saturday, Nov. 19 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The HYA group, made up of youth from high schools throughout Forsyth County, raises money for and builds a Habitat house each year. PieFest attendees will be able to sample a wide range of savory and dessert pies, listen to live music, play games, win door prizes, and purchase pies to take home. About 1,000 pies will be baked by students of the Winston-Salem Forsyth County Schools’ Career Center, Kennedy High School and Carter High School, with ingredients donated by Performance Foods and U.S. Foods.

PieFest will take place at the DoubleTree by Hilton at 5790 University Parkway and is a partnership with the hotel’s Providence Restaurant, which is part of the Second Harvest Food Bank. Frozen pies can also be purchased and picked up without attending the event. Moravian-style chicken pies and shepherd’s pies will be $12 each. Classic pumpkin, Oreo and apple pies will be sold for $10.

Online orders will be taken through Nov. 12 at www.habitatforsyth.org. Buyers can also choose to pick up pies at the Habitat ReStores in Winston-Salem and Kernersville on Nov. 18 and 22.

Tickets to the PieFest event, if purchased online by Nov. 18, are $10 for adults, $8 for Winston-Salem Forsyth County Schools employees, and $5 for students. If purchased at the door, ticket prices for all groups will increase by $1. Youth under 12 are free.

Attendees are also encouraged to bring canned and/or non-perishable food items for Second Harvest. For every three items donated, attendees will receive a ticket for a door prize drawing.
